Question by vickyd: elliptical owners…. is it worth it to buy the extended warranty?
I’ve been looking into buying an elliptical, the one that I like already comes with a 1 yr parts and labor warranty but the store offers an extended warranty from 1 yr $ 80 to 4 yrs $ 200 for parts and labor on top of the 1 yr manufacture warranty…. I’m getting the elliptical on sale for $ 600. I don’t know if its worth or if I need it. Any help!

Generally speaking, when it comes to home exercise equipment, an extended warranty is a waste of money. It’s a profit center for department stores and sporting-goods stores, to be frank. If you are buying an elliptical trainer from a reputable company, the machine will be built to last several years and should include a rock-solid warranty, too. One year of in-home labor is pretty standard. Other good warranty points to look for are lifetime coverage on the frame and three years on brakes and electronics.
Some good affordable brands to consider: Sole (excellent warranty), Schwinn (good product, but warranty is a bit short), and Horizon Fitness (well-reviewed and decent warranty).
